Class 75(3) A gas igniter comprises a metal torch connected by a flexible tube to a tap for controlling the supply of gas to the torch, a dry battery holder carried by the body part of the tap and a filament heated by current from the battery, the torch serving as a means for actuating the movable member of the tap and also as part of the switch for controlling the battery-filament circuit. In the form shown, the gas supply to the torch f is controlled by a rotary plug coaxial with an actuating piece g having a hole through which the end of the torch is inserted and held in place by a collar k engaging a key-hole slot in the body part a of the tap. A dry battery o is housed in a casing mounted on the part a one terminal being connected to a filament contained in a cage r, the other end of the filament being connected to a contact piece u mounted adjacent to a contact piece u connected to the other terminal of the battery. In operation the torch is moved to the position shown in dotted lines thereby opening the gas tap. The tip of the torch then bears on the contact piece u deflecting it into contact with the contact piece U 1 , closing the filament circuit to ignite the torch. In this position the collar k comes opposite the enlarged end of the keyhole slot and the torch can be withdrawn.
