Abstract

N - (2 - pyrimidylsulphenyl) - morpholines are prepared by reacting an alkaline solution of a 2-mercaptopyrimidine with a N-halomorpholine. The alkaline medium is preferably an aqueous or alcoholic solution of alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxides. Suitable 2-mercaptopyrimidines are, for example, 2-mercapto-4-alkyl-, -4,5-dialkyl-, and -4,5,6-trialkylpyrimidines especially the 2-mercapto-4-methyl and 4,6-dimethyl derivatives, or also the corresponding aryl derivatives. The preferred N-halomorpholines are the N-chloro- and N-bromo-morpholines. The reaction is preferably carried out by gradually introducing an aqueous and/or alcoholic solution of an alkali metal salt of a 2-mercaptopyrimidine into a N-halomorpholine. The products are vulcanization accelerators and also intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. In examples, N - (4 - methyl - 2 - pyrimidylsulphenyl) - morpholine is prepared by adding an aqueous or methanolic sodium hydroxide solution of 2-mercapto - 4 - methylpyrimidine to N - chloromorpholine.
