Abstract
Powdered titanium carbide or zirconium carbide or a mixture of the two is subjected to a compacting and sintering operation. In an example, powdered titanium carbide is pressed into rods at about 1 ton per square inch in a graphite die whilst being heated to 2000 DEG C. to 2050 DEG C. in a hydrogen atmosphere. The heating time is one hour, and the pressure is maintained during cooling. A low porosity of 2-5 per cent is achieved, and the rods are suitable for current leads in electrolysis. Specification 784,696 is referred to.
