Abstract
A current-conducting element for a fused-electrolytic cell comprising a mixture of titanium carbide and titanium boride is made by hot-pressing a mixture of the powders in a hydrogen atmosphere, e.g. at a pressure of 1 ton/square inch and a temperature of 2000 DEG C. to 2050 DEG C. as described in Specification 802,471 for a carbide element. Alternatively, cold-pressing followed by sintering in a vacuum or in a neutral atmosphere may be employed. The proportion of boride may be from 5% to 25% by weight, and the proportion may be graded along the length of the element.
