802,422. Feeding appliances for animals. JAMES MFG. CO. Oct. 12, 1954, No. 29335/54. Class 5(2). [Also in Group XXX] Material supply means comprise a feed hopper which has a narrow outlet at its bottom and an opening controlled by a gate valve, a reciprocating trough conveyer which forms a bottom for the hopper and a flapper plate in the trough connected to the gate valve to control the height of material therein. The flapper plate 25 is situated in the oscillating trough B which moves the feed forward from the hopper A. The valve rides over the feed and when it reaches a certain height it opens a switch 27 which breaks an electrical circuit so that the core 20 of the solenoid 19 is released and the gate valve 18 closes by gravity. When the level of the feed drops sufficiently the flapper plate works the switch 27 to close the circuit and energize the solenoid which lifts the gate valve. The trough B is fitted with a false bottom 17 close to the hopper so that the feed is supplied through the exit 13<SP>1</SP>. The flapper plate may be mechanically connected to the gate valve.
