A poultry-feeding appliance comprises a feed hopper A, a conveying trough C receiving feed from the hopper and means beyond the end of the trough sensitive to the volume of feed passing thereunder, the sensitive means being connected to a control circuit which controls the means rate of delivery of feed by the conveyer trough. The hopper supplies feed through an adjustable duct 14 to the conveying trough which is oscillated by the mechanism B. The feed falls from the trough C into a feed-pan D where it is pushed under a flapper plate 30 by means of a plate 25 fixed to the trough. The flapper plate rides over the feed and in dependence upon the amount of feed passing thereunder the projection 32 operates a switch 19 thereby breaking the circuit containing the solenoid 18 so that the valve 16 closes by gravity to stop the supply of feed to the trough. In a modification, see Fig. 5, the hopper E is provided with a narrow opening along its length in close proximity to which is disposed the conveyer feed trough 40 which feeds intermittently, via a duct 41, a closed system of oscillating feed troughs 42, 43, 44 and 45. A manually-operated valve 57 controls the amount of feed entering the trough 40 but the amount of feed supplied by this trough is controlled by a flapper plate 30 disposed in trough 42, the flapper plate operating to break the circuit to the oscillating mechanism B of the feed trough 40.
