Abstract

802,049. Electrode materials and processing. FERNSEH G. m. b. H. March 23, 1956 [March 23, 1955], No. 9197/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). A secondary electron emissive electrode consisting of a metal support coated with an emissive alloy is made by separately coating on to the support the more easily oxidizable component of the alloy, and then the less easily oxidizable component. Thus one component is protected by the other, and may be so stored until assembled within the discharge device, when the electrode is heated under vacuum to alloy the two components. For example, a layer of magnesium 0À5Á thick is evaporated on to a nickel base, and then covered with a further layer of silver 0À7Á thick. Other suitable alloys are copper-beryllium and gold-magnesium, the first-named being the more readily oxidizable component.
