801,585. Preserving grain &c. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Dec. 22, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 37089/54. Class 49. [Also in Group XIII] In preserving substances in a container in air, the temperature of the substance and the hygrometric state of the air are regulated with reference to a curve (Fig. 1) relating to a work factor C and temperature T previously determined for any one of a class of similar substances, e.g. wheat in the case of grain, such that a point P representing the experimental conditions is above the curve, whereby preservation is ensured; the work factor C is calculated from the formula C=RT colog h/100, wherein R is the perfect gas constant, T the absolute temperature of the substance and h the hygrometric state, the ratio of actual vapour pressure to the saturated vapour pressure. The required conditions of temperature and humidity may be obtained by circulating air from the container past an evaporator for refrigerant fluid and a condenser coupled in parallel with a condenser outside the circuit.
