800,362. Gain control. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 5603/57. Class 40 (5). In a television receiver with A.G.C., in which the contrast control comprises a potentiometer 5 for varying the screen-grid voltage of a video amplifier 1, the potentiometer 5 is connected to the positive H.T. supply via a resistor 8 which also feeds the A.G.C.-controlled I.F. stages 9. In this way the current through the valves 9 reduces the voltage across the potentiometer 5 when there is no signal and so prevents an excessive current through it.
