Abstract

873,537. Transistor amplifying circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 14, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13396/60. Class 40(6) In order to prevent distortion of strong signals applied to a transistor amplifier having automatic gain control further manual gain control is effected by connecting the impedance through which the automatic gain control current flows to a point of adjustable potential. The transformer winding L across which the I.F. input signal is applied, is connected through an impedance comprising resistors R 1 R 2 to a source of negative potential. The junction of resistors R 1 R 2 is connected to ground through variable resistor R 3 which functions as a volume control, and the A.G.C. current is fed to the junction of coil L and resistor R 1 . When the movable contact of R 3 is moved to the left the current through resistors R 3 , R 2 increases and the base voltage of transistor T becomes more positive, thus providing a further decrease in the gain.
