Abstract
856,016. Television. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. April 25, 1957 [April 25, 1956], No. 13195/57. Class 40(3). [Also in Group XL(c)] The gain of the video amplifier valve of a television receiver is varied by adjusting the potential of an electrode of a further valve connected in series with an electrode of the amplifier valve and consequent changes in picture brightness are compensated by applying a voltage derived from the anode circuit of the futher valve to an electrode of the cathode-ray tube. In Fig. 2 the gain of the video amplifier 1 of a television receiver is controlled by varying a potentiometer 15 so as to vary the impedance of a valve 12 connected in the screen grid circuit of the video amplifier valve 1. Variation of potentiometer 15 also varies the voltage across a potentiometer 16 so as to maintain the brightness constant as the contrast is adjusted. Synchronizing pulses developed across resistor 5 are applied to the cathode of a valve 6, the anode of which receives keying pulses so that a voltage is developed across a capacitor 8 for automatic gain control. The maximum amplitude of the video signal from valve 1 depends upon the screen potential of the valve so that varying the gain by varying the screen voltage also varies the level at which the valve limits interference.
