Abstract

800,279. Mixing in proportionate quantities. McNAIR, H. N., and DINTINO, A. L. Oct. 18, 1955, No. 29739/55. Class 86 Relates to the distribution of a chemical substance by a liquid vehicle in predetermined regulated concentrations, which is especially applicable to the admixture of such chemical substances as insecticides, fertilizers, fire-extinguishing compositions, &c. with water, &c. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 a conduit 1 is provided with a header 12 having a flange portion 13 to which is attached a container 14. The header 12 is apertured and is fitted with a valve 21 and with a conduit 19 which extends almost to the bottom of container 14. The conduit 1 is formed as a Venturi tube the throat of which is opposite the aperture 16 in the header 12. Ingress of liquid from the conduit I to the container 12 is through a conduit 22 which has a tapered end 25 provided with an opening 32 and projectinto the conduit. 1. Liquid entering through the opening 32 flows through passages progressively enlarged so that the velocity of the liquid decreases, the liquid eventually flowing gently along the conduit 19 until it is dispersed on the surface of the liquid already in the container 14. Liquid flows from the bottom of the container through the conduit 19 and valve 21 to the conduit 1. If the container 14 contains a solid material soluble in the liquid passing through conduit 1, the conduit 19 does not extend into the container as far down as the solid. Alternatively if the liquid in container 14 is of lower specific gravity than the liquid in conduit 1 the flowing liquid through conduit 22 is directed to the bottom of the container 14 to force upwardly the liquid already in the container. The conduit 19 may be flexible and weighted at the bottom. In a modification shown in Fig. 8, the conduit 70 is connected by two flexible pipes 79, 90 to a header 82 to which is attached a container 14. Liquid from the conduit 70 flows into the container by way of metering jet 96, pipe 90 and passage 87, and liquid flows out from the container through conduit 86, passage 83, pipe 79 and passage 77. The flow of liquid into the main venturi conduit may bypass a ball valve which prevents return flow.
