Abstract
800,185. Dielectric heating. PYE, Ltd. June 6, 1956 [June 6, 1955], No. 16162/55. Class 39(3) An electrode for use in stray field radio frequency heating comprises a platen body 1 of insulating material which may include fused ground silica and synthetic resin, electrodes 2 being embedded in the body and staggered so that projecting portions on respective sides may be connected together for connection to one pole of a source of electrical energy. The electrodes lie flush with the surface 3 of the body 1 which is covered by a layer of fibre glass cloth 4 impregnated with the insulating material. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the electrodes are arranged obliquely of the insulating body. The surface of the body having the electrodes flush therewith may be curved and the electrodes may be square, triangular or I- section, and the back surface of the body may have a wood veneer secured to it. The electrodes may project from one side only of the body and terminate at or near the surface on the opposite side of the body.
