Abstract
686,288. Dielectric heating. WILLYSOVERLAND MOTORS, Inc. July 21, 1949 [Oct. 8, 1948], No. 4999/51. Divided out of 686,242..Class 39(iii) A method of bonding a non-metallic element to a glass or a like frangible panel includes the positioning of a fusible bonding agent between the element and panel, the bonding agent having a higher dielectric loss factor than the element or panel, and positioning the element and panel adjacent electrodes energized by high frequency current to' effect a fusing of the bonding agent. In the embodiment blocks 53 of resinous plastic are bonded to glass panels 50 by electrodes 22, 36, the bonding agent 54 comprising, for example, a combination of phenolic resin and buna N resins. As shown, two panels 50, separated by blocks 24, are bonded to blocks 53 simultaneously. The electrode 36 is resiliently supported within a pivoted screened cage 30 and presses against the blocks 53. The electrodes 22 are of aluminium or other non-magnetic material and are earthed. A weather strip of felt, for example, may be similarly bonded to the panel. Specification 686,242 is referred to.
