Abstract

605,806. Dielectric heating. SHRIMPTON. W. J., and BRITISH ARTIFICIAL RESIN CO., Ltd. Jan. 5, 1946, No. 449. [Class 39(iii)] A continuous layer 9 of comminuted material such as sawdust mixed with a plastic binder, is traversed beneath electrodes 5a on an earthed metal band or like conveyer 8 supported on a metal bed 6, and is heated by the action of a H.F. field between the electrodes and the conveyer. Insulated guides 7 are positioned on either side of the conveyer to retain the comminuted material on the conveyer band. An alternative arrangement in which the electrodes are spaced above and below a gap in the conveyer is employed when a support is provided for the comminuted material which is of sufficient rigidity to bridge the gap.
