Abstract

636,492. Di-electric heating. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. July 14, 1947, No. 18646. Convention date, Jan. 24. [Class 39 (iii)] A mass of di-electric material is contained between two flat plate electrodes and is closely surrounded by a voltage divider coil, and is heated by the application of high frequency current to the electrodes and coil. In one embodiment, material 10, e.g. cork particles coated with a heat activatable binder, is confined in a mould 14 and between electrodes 11 and 12 which are held in position by pins 15. A voltage divider coil 16 surrounds, or is embedded in the mould wall and is connected to the electrode plates. The spacing of the coil turns may be varied along its length to produce a required heating throughout the mass. The electrodes are electro-magnetically shielded from the coil 16 by copper bands 19. Alternatively the electrodes are disposed on opposing platens of a press. Specifications 517,798 and 605,589 are referred to.
