Abstract

1,185,240. Measuring dielectric properties of material. PFAUDLER-WERKE A.G. Dec. 18, 1957 [Oct. 30, 1967], No.57436/67. Heading G1N. The dielectric properties of a material, e.g. for controlling its production, are measured using a composite probe, which is immersed in the material, comprising a cylindrical steel housing 1, Fig. 1, with a steel electrode 3 supported in and insulated from the closed bottom end of the housing 1, the whole of the external surface of the probe being covered with a continuous enamel layer 2. A second electrode may be formed by the housing or by a further electrode, Fig. 2 (not shown), supported in the bottom of the housing. The two electrodes are connected to a tank circuit 5 connected to or forming part of an h.f. oscillator 6 whereby the amplitude or frequency of the oscillator is varied according to the dielectric properties of the material coupling the electrodes. The tank circuit, h.f. oscillator and h.f. detector 7 are all contained with the housing and may be surrounded by a cooling coil 8. Various configurations of the electrodes are shown in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
