Measuring device for controlling and monitoring technical processes and using the measuring device
The invention relates to a measuring device for controlling and monitoring chemical and physico-chemical technical processes by measuring a variable as a function of the electrical conductivity and / or the dielectric constant of the product medium in a reaction vessel, with a measuring probe carrying at least one metallic electrode, which electrode is from a electrically insulating layer is surrounded in order to be able to capacitively couple it with the product medium, as well as with an HF generator, a tuning element for the generator, an oscillating circuit in which the electrode is provided, and an HF voltmeter. The invention also relates to the use of the measuring device in a pressure-tight, closed reaction vessel.
Such measuring devices have so far only been used for laboratory purposes. A use for large-scale technical processes has not appeared possible up to now because the known glass or metal electrodes would fail at higher temperatures and at higher pressure due to damage or surface changes. It is therefore the object of the invention to design a measuring device of the type mentioned in such a way that it can be used at temperatures up to at least 2300C and pressures up to at least 50 atmospheres and is largely resistant to highly corrosive chemical attack agents, so that the device can be used for common processes on a large industrial scale can be used.
According to the invention, a measuring device of the type mentioned is characterized in that the measuring probe, which is provided with a protective coating on the outside, is designed as a steel housing with an electrode inserted in this insulated, and that the generator, the tuning element, the oscillating circuit and the voltmeter in the interior of the steel housing are arranged. These electronic components are expediently surrounded by a cooling coil in order to prevent excessively high temperatures from occurring. In order to enable the generator to be tuned by a remote control, frequency-influencing capacitance diodes can be present in an oscillating circuit of the generator, which capacitance diodes are controlled from the outside with a low-frequency alternating voltage or direct voltage.
The measuring probe of the measuring device according to the invention is preferably a steel housing enamelled with a highly resistant chemical enamel to which the enamelled electrode, which is also made of steel, is fused in this way. that the insulating connection consists of a fused enamel layer. The use according to the invention is characterized in that the measuring probe forms a structural unit with a built-in part of the reaction vessel. The built-in part can be designed as a thermometer tube, baffle, valve cone or valve spindle. Furthermore, the reaction vessel can also be enamelled.
The invention will be explained in more detail using the exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing.
Show it:
1 shows a baffle, serving as a measuring probe, of an enamelled agitator container, in which the measuring device is arranged; and
2-4 embodiments of enamelled measuring probes according to the invention.
The measuring probe shown in Fig. 1 is the lower end of a baffle, which is a built-in part of a closed enamelled agitator tank. The electronic units of the measuring device are shown schematically in this measuring probe.
The steel housing 1 of the measuring probe is covered with an enamel layer 2 made of highly resistant chemical enamel. The electrode 3 is also made of steel. The electrode 3 is approximately conical in the manner shown in the figure, and has a surface that is slightly curved towards the product side. This design of the electrode ensures a very high mechanical stability. The electrode is expediently melted in such a way that both the outer surfaces of the electrode 3 and of the steel housing 1 are pre-enamelled. Then the electrode 3 is inserted into the opening corresponding to its outer shape in the steel housing 1 in accordance with the desired end position, three ceramic spacers being clamped between the enamel surfaces to be fused in order to achieve a three-point mounting.
The opposing enamel layers are then fused by supplying heat.
An end part 4 of the electrode 3 protruding into the interior of the measuring probe is not enameled and enables the electrode to be electrically connected to the oscillating circuit 5. The electronic device of the measuring device, which, in addition to the oscillating circuit 5, includes the HF generator 6 and the HF voltmeter 7, is known per se. It is expediently built into a cooling coil 8 in order to avoid the occurrence of dangerous heating of the built-in electronic parts, especially at higher operating temperatures.
A resonant circuit, not shown in detail, of the HF generator 6 contains frequency-influencing capacitance diodes which are modulated from the outside with a low-frequency alternating voltage. The electronic units are connected via the direct current measuring line 9, the diode control line 10 and the measuring connection 11.
The measuring device works in two different modes of operation depending on the type of product medium. In one operating mode, the generator 6 supplies the oscillating circuit 5, which serves as the measuring circuit, a precisely defined high-frequency alternating current via a coupling capacitor 12, which generates a measurable voltage drop that is dependent on the product medium and is measured after rectification with the aid of a probe (active component method). In the other operating mode, the measuring circuit itself is part of a high-frequency generator and determines its oscillation frequency, which is used as a signal variable (reactive component method). The areas of application of both methods are known per se.
Switching from one mode of operation to the other takes place with the aid of two externally controlled switches, for example with two diode switches.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the measuring probe has two electrodes 3 which are melted in a corresponding manner in openings in the steel housing 1. With this arrangement, a relatively large measurement volume is recorded.
In the measuring probe shown in FIG. 3, the steel housing 1 has an annular extension 13 which mechanically protects an essentially cylindrical electrode 3 with a relatively large surface. With this arrangement too, a relatively large measurement volume is recorded.
In the measuring probe shown in FIG. 4, the electrode 3 is designed similarly to the measuring probe in FIG. 1, but allows not only good mechanical stability but also a larger surface with respect to the product medium and thus a greater sensitivity of the measuring probe.
A particular advantage of the invention can also be seen in the fact that the measuring device can be provided in various built-in parts of an agitator tank, such as a thermometer tube, baffle, valve cone or valve spindle, originally or subsequently, at those locations that are best suited for the given measuring purpose.
