Abstract
799,641. Recording-apparatus. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 5, 1956 [Nov. 4, 1955], No. 31525/55. Class 106 (4). A spark recorder comprises an indicating needle 8 and a contact element respectively connected to the poles of a voltage source and constituting the two electrodes of a spark gap, the contact element being divided into two segments to provide alternative paths for the spark discharge current according to the position of the needle 8 whereby alarm, indicating or controlling means may be operated in dependence thereon and means for moving the element to change the position of the division along its length. The element may be an endless band, passed round pulleys 17, 18, Fig. 2, formed of a conductor 16 divided into two segments by insulating beads 19, 20 and movable through a knob 23 on the spindle of the pulley 18. Alternatively, the element may be the selected one of a series of stainless steel knife edges 7a, 7b, 7c, Fig. 3, having gaps 12a, 12b, 12c in different positions and being mounted on the circumference of a cylinder rotatable through a knob 26. A large varying voltage from the secondary winding of a spark coil is applied to the segments through brushes 21, 22, Fig. 2; 29, 30, Fig. 3, at least one of the paths including a relay for operating an alarm or control circuit.
