Sept. 4, 1956 [Nov. 22, 1955], No. 26963/56. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] In a pulsator for producing a periodically variable pressure in the cylinder of an endurance testing machine, a pulsator cylinder 1 is rotatable about the axis of the crankshaft which reciprocates a pulsator piston 7. By altering the ratio between the number of revolutions of the cylinder to the number of revolutions of the crankshaft the frequency of the pressure pulses is changed. This construction enables the pulsator to give pressure pulses of low frequency and still to maintain a smooth operation, without having to use flywheels of uneconomical dimensions. The stroke of the piston 7 is altered by changing the throw of the crank 10. In a modification a pulsator cylinder 20 is carried by a frame 19 connected to a flywheel 18 and its piston is connected by a rod 17 to a flywheel 16. The stroke may be altered by changing the position of the cylinder with respect to the frame 19. The cylinder 20 is connected to the testing machine by an articulated pipe 24.
