Abstract

851,268. Refrigerating. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. March 25. 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 10357/59. Class 29 [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVII] In a refrigerator or heat pump comprising a displacer 2 and a piston 3 each connected by connecting rods 22, 29 to two oppositely rotating crankshafts 32 located on each side of a plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the engine and each provided with a counterweight 55, the piston-connecting rods 22 being pivotally connected at 20 to the piston rod 19 and rotatably mounted at their big ends 24 on the crankpins 25 and the displacerconnecting rods 29 being pivotally connected at 31 to the displacer rod 23 and at 27 to the piston rod big ends 24, the distances between the two pivots 20 and 27 and 31 and 27 on each of the piston-connecting rods and the displacer-connecting rods are all equal and the machine is balanced by relating the masses and dispositions of the moving parts and the counterweights in accordance with a formula given in the Specification. The crankshafts have intermeshing gearwheels 33 and the displacer rod 23 passes through the piston rod and a hollow shaft of the pivot 20.
