Abstract

1,024,274. Refrigerating. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. Nov. 13, 1962 [Nov. 16, 1961], No. 42903/62. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] A thermodynamic reciprocating machine (refrigerator or heat pump) of the displacer piston-type, comprises two identical parallel crank-shafts 27 which are coupled to each other for synchronous rotation in opposite directions and with equal angular velocities and which are located symmetrically about a plane parallel to the axes of the crank-shafts and passing through the centre line of the machine and at least one pair of connecting rod mechanisms each comprising at least one pair of connecting rods which are connected to the crank shafts through crank-pins 28 and the ends of which remote from the crank-shafts are interconnected, the interconnected ends of the connecting rods of one mechanism being located on one side of the plane passing through the axes of the crankshafts and the interconnected ends of the connecting rods of the other mechanism being located on the other side of the plane and each mechanism being connected with at least one piston or piston-like body 2, 3 and the axes of the crank-pins of each crank-shaft are spaced from the axis of the crank-shaft by such relative distances and the connecting rods have such lengths that the piston or piston-like bodies perform unequal strokes. The relative dimensions of the parts in order to obtain balancing are specified. Although the yokes of Fig. 3 (not shown) are connected with only one piston and one displacer respectively one yoke can be connected with a plurality of pistons and the other with a corresponding number of displacers in a multi-cylinder machine. One or both yokes may be connected with the piston of a compressor, Fig. 5 (not shown), comprises a modification including three parallel cylinders. In the operation of the machine the absolute temperature in the space of each cycle of the higher temperature is preferably at least six times higher than the absolute temperature in the space of the same cycle having the lower temperature.
