Abstract

799,275. Thermally-actuated valves. RADIATION, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1955 [Jan. 13, 1955], No. 1051/55. Class 135. A thermostatic control means for controlling the supply of gas to a water heater comprises a body part a, Fig. 1, having a gas inlet b, an outlet c to the burner and an outlet d to a pilot burner. Within the part a is a slider e loaded by a spring g which normally retains the slider e against a seating f so shutting off the gas from the burner. A plunger h may be moved by a finger piece j against the pressure of a spring i to move the slider e away from the seating f into a position in which it is held by the engagement of a rod m with a spring catch o secured to the slider e. The rod m is contained within a tube n and constitutes temperature responsive means. When the water reaches a predetermined temperature the rod m is withdrawn from the catch o and the spring g returns the slider e to its closing position.
