Abstract

790,869. Thermally-actuated valves. BREESE BURNERS, Inc. Aug. 12, 1955 [Aug. 25, 1954], No. 23359/55. Class 135. A heat-responsive control assembly for a metering valve 31 yieldingly urged to close the fuel line 21 to a liquid fuel burner, closes the valve at a selected lower temperature and also at a selected higher temperature and positively holds the valve open at intermediate temperature. When a room heater casing 1 expands it moves a bracket 61 which, through a rod 60 and lever 72 moves a cam 51 beneath a lever 40 pivoted at 41 to adjust the fuel valve 32. Should the casing temperature rise above a certain value the cam enters a lever recess 42 and allows the valve to close after which the lever must be manually reset. Should the temperature fall below a certain minimum value the cam assumes its dotted line position under the influence of a spring 70 and again allows the valve to close. In a modification a rod and tube thermal element acts on a triangular lever a corner of which cams under the curved end of a straight lever pivoted on an adjustable fulcrum 41. A filter formed by a helical spring may be placed in the valve inlet 16.
