798,830. Composition fuel. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP BRIKO. Oct. 26, 1955 [Oct. 26, 1954], No. 30654/55. Addition to 798,829. Class 50. A starting material such as lean coal or anthracite is intimately mixed both with a product prepared by treating one or more higher carbohydrates or carbohydrate ethers in finely divided dry condition with a concentrated liquid or gaseous organic acid, and with a product obtained by heating brown coal with a liquid or gaseous organic acid, the mixture being thereupon heated, briquetted under pressure, and dried. The conversion of the carbohydrate or carbohydrate ether and the heat treatment of the brown coal may be carried out separately. Alternatively the carbohydrate or carbohydrate ether may be mixed with the brown coal, the mixture heated, and the organic acid added. In an example, washed brown coal is heated to at most 200‹ C. and 4 c.c. of 80 per cent acetic acid added per kilogram of brown coal. 1.35 per cent of the converted brown coal and 1.65 per cent of the converted carbohydrate by weight of the starting material is used. In another example, 1.25 per cent by weight of the converted brown coal, 1.55 per cent of converted carbohydrate and 0.2 per cent of solid wax are used.
