Abstract
An oiling agent for fur skins consists of an oil or fat or a sulphonation or sulphitation product thereof, a polyalkylene oxide wax derivative containing a lipophilic group, which is soluble or dispersible in water and a natural or synthetic wax. The lipophilic group is defined as an aliphatic, alicyclic, aliphatic-aromatic or cycloaliphatic-aromatic group containing at least six carbon atoms. Specified oils and fats and sulphonated or sulphited derivatives thereof are mineral oils, olein, train oil, tall oil, turkey red oil, sulphonated neat's foot oil and sulphonated or sulphited train or sperm oil. The polyalkylene oxide wax derivatives are preferably derived from polyalkylene oxide waxes of average m.w. over 1,000 made by reacting alkylene oxides, e.g. ethylene or propylene oxide or epichlorhydrin with aliphatic, alicyclic or fatty aromatic hydroxy; carboxy-, mercapto-, amino- and acid-amide compounds containing at least six carbon atoms, of which many are specified, examples being hexyl alcohol, cyclohexyl alcohol, naphthenic acids and alkyl-benzene sulphonic acids; they may also be derived by reaction of polyalkylene oxide waxes with organic compounds containing at least six carbon atoms and an easily replaceable hydrogen atom or polyvalent organic or inorganic acids. The synthetic waxes specified are derived from unsaturated fatty acids and monohydric fat alcohols whilst natural waxes specified are wool fat and waxes derived from marine animal oils. Emulsifying agents and anionic, cationic, or electro neutral surface-active agents, e.g. alkyl sulphates and sulphonates and alkyl-benzene-sulphonates may be present. In the example, a paste is obtained from sulphonated sperm oil, the distearic acid ester of a polyalkylene glycol wax of molecular weight 9,000, sodium alkyl sulphate and wool fat. The compositions are used as oiling agents in the tanning industry. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 689,724, [Group VIII], 766,177 and 772,454.
