Abstract

797,866. Operating vehicle windows. SILENT CHANNEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 14, 1956 [Nav. 21, 1955], No. 28226/56. Class 20(3) An operating device for a vertically slidable vehicle window 3 not supported, or guided, along its lateral edges by rails, or channels, comprises a slide 5 the web 4 of which carries a transverse support 6 with channels 7 for receiving the lower edge of the outwardly curved window pane 3 accommodated in a housing 10 in the vehicle door 1, and which has, along each side, two resilient cut out tongues 15 each carrying a guide roller 16 which engages the corresponding rounded side 18 of a resilient vertical guide rail 11 secured in the housing 10. The drive for the window 3 comprises a crank operated unit 9 having a movable arm 8 carrying, at its free end, a roller which is slidably engaged in a slot 21 in a flange 20 depending from the web 4, the guide rail 11 being provided, at its upper end, with an inwardly inclined part 14 so that during the final closing movement of the window, the slide 5 moves inwardly and the window carried thereby is correspondingly tilted toward a step 12 provided around the three sides of the window aperture. The step 12 can be provided with a flat resilient sealing strip made e.g. of rubber, sealing lips 13 being provided along the lower edge of the window aperture. In a modification, Fig. 13, the guide 11 is not inclined from the vertical at 14 but instead, is provided with an inclined bearing surface 22 which, during the final closing movement of the window 3, is engaged by a roller 23 on the lower end of a lever-like projection 24 of the slide web 4, the latter being tilted inwardly from its vertical position so that the window is inclined towards the step 12. The mounting of the rollers 16 on the resilient tongues 15 is sufficiently flexible to permit the tilting of the slide web 4.
