Abstract
601,368. Vehicle windows; ventilators. DUTFIELD, A. E., RAWLINGS, E. J., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Dec. 7, 1945, No. 33124. [Classes 20(iii) and 137] A window construction, particularly for a vehicle, comprises an air-extractor device arranged within the normal window space and interposed between two window lights, at least one of which is slidably mounted, so that the amount of opening of the window for the ingress of air obtained by sliding the one, or two, slidable lights provides a proportionate degree of closing of the air extractor device. As shown, the air-extractor 8 is arranged vertically between the horizontal members 1, 4 of a frame B situated above a fixed light 34. The light E is horizontally slidable and the light F is fixed. The member 1 has an upwardly directed flange 1B to which the lower edge of a plate 11 is secured. A flexible, removable rib 5 of angle section is secured to the member 1 and serves as the bottom guide of a three-sided frame 18, 19, 20, which, with interposed rubber-channelling 21, carries the light E. The upper guide comprises a web 4D, on the member 4, which is spaced from the frame member 18 by a felt lining 22. The air extractor 8, which is secured to the members 1, 4 by screws 9, comprises, in its lower part, a barrier wall 8D aligned with inclined louvre slats 8C, and an opposed series of inclined louvre slots 8f which are formed as separate members and are secured by screws 8G. The extractor 8 carries a rubber sealing strip which makes sliding contact with the light E, and, at the other side of the light E, the plate 11 serves as a baffle, being secured at the upper edge, by an angle bracket 13, to the flange 4B of the member 4. The fixed light 34 is held, at the side and bottom edges, in felt channelling and is maintained in position by removable beads 36. The upper edge is held in rubber channelling 37 accommodated in a groove in a rail 38 which is grooved to receive also a rib 1C on the member 1. This arrangement permits the rail 38 to be reversed, so that the glazing E, F may. be disposed inwardly or outwardly of the plane of the light 34.
