Abstract

797,372. Shelling grain and seeds. GRANT, Ltd., L. C. Nov. 29, 1956 [Aug. 31, 1955], No. 24971/55. Class 58. A machine for shelling hard-kernelled grain such as rice, and seeds such as nuts and beans comprises a pair of cylinders 1, 2 with soft resilient surfaces 3, 4, Fig. 2, rotatable in opposite directions and at different speeds on horizontal axles lying in an inclined plane, the axle 7 of the lower cylinder 2 being journalled in a link 9, Fig. 3, pivoting on a shaft 11 lying parallel to the axle 7. The link 9 is pivoted to a link 14 pivoted to a rod 15, which can be raised or lowered, to decrease or increase the distance between the cylinders at their nip, by turning a hand wheel 16, e.g. associated with a screw device. The machine may also comprise a shoot 25, Fig. 2, and a feed roller 24 for feeding grain &c. into the nip and an inclined shoot 5 for conducting shelled grain, &c. away from the nip, the shoot 5 having on its upper face a horizontally pivoted baffle 6. The shoot 25 may be pivoted in the frame of the machine and may be connected to the link 9 so that any change in the position of the latter is accompanied by a change in the inclination of the shoot.
