Abstract
The invention relates to a salt of s-bis-(p-arsonophenylamino) ethane of formula <FORM:0796486/IV (b)/1> with a spiramycin-type antibiotic which salt is effective against Endamoeba Histolytica. The spiramycin-type antibiotic is (a) spiramycin complex, (b) spiramycin I, (c) spiramycin II, (d) spiramycin III, or (e) hydrogenated spiramycin, or constituent as in (b), (c) and (d), or mixture of such constituents, containing at most four hydrogen atoms additional to those present in the unhydrogenated material, e.g. tetrahydrospiramycin. The free arsenical compound acid may be reacted with the free antibiotic base in the presence of an organic or aqueous organic solvent. Alternatively a salt of the arsenical compound, e.g. sodium salt, may be reacted with a salt of the antibiotic, e.g. sulphate in aqueous solution. The reactants are used in stoichiometric proportions. Specifications 758,726 and 785,191 are referred to.
