Abstract

796,214. Electrodeposition of bright cadmium. HANSON - VAN WINKLE - MUNNING CO. Oct. 15, 1956 [Nov. 8, 1955], No. 31314/56. Class 41. Bright cadmium is electrodeposited from an aqueous alkaline solution containing per litre 50 to 150 grams of an alkali metal, 10 to 50 grams of cadmium, 0.001 to 0.75 gram of a water-dispersible cellulose derivative, and 0.25 to 30 grams of a glycolic compound where R is hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, X is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl, and n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 500, i.e. an alkylene glycol, a polyalkylene glycol, or alkyl derivatives thereof. Preferably the bath also contains 0.001 to 0.75 gram per litre of nickel. The cellulose derivatives may be hydroxyethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl carboxymethyl cellulose, or oxidized cellulose.
