795,608. Vehicle movers. GERSTER. J. C. Dec. 27, 1956 [Dec. 26, 1955], No. 39374/56. Class 79(1) A small size engine for shunting railway cars, comprising a motor driven bogie 1 and lifting apparatus mounted thereon for supporting one end of a railway car on its buffers so as to increase the adhesion of the shunting engine wheels, is characterized in that the lifting apparatus comprises a cross beam 7 swingable about a horizontal axis and longitudinally movable, each end of the cross beam having a supporting member 9a for one of the buffer sleeves 12 and a correspondingly disposed U-shaped member 10 adapted to receive the lower rim portion of the buffer plate 11. The cross beam 7 comprises two pairs of guide rails 7a, 7b provided with V grooves adapted to engage correspondingly shaped rim portions of rollers 6. These rollers 6 are mounted on journals 5 carried by a cylinder 4 forming part of hydraulic lifting apparatus having a stationary piston attached to the bogie 1. The cross beam 7 is retained in its intermediate position by oppositely acting tension springs 8. The rear leg of the U-shaped receiving member 10 comprises an upwardly projecting extension 10b which forms a stop.
