Abstract

Nitrocellulose compositions comprise 5-15 parts of nitrocellulose, 2-15 parts of castor oil, 2-10 parts of methyl cellusolve, and a mixture of ethanol and ethyl ether in such proportions as to bring the total amount of the composition up to 106 parts by weight. An exemplified composition contains 10 parts of nitrocellulose, 5 parts of castor oil, 5 parts of methyl cellosolve and 86 parts of a mixture of ethanol and ethyl ether. This mixture consists of 47 parts of 95 per cent ethanol, 42 parts of ether and 11 parts of the vehicle or carrier with which the nitrocellulose was originally mixed, said vehicle consisting of ethanol or a 75/25 v/v ethanol-ether ether mixture. The number of parts of castor oil in 106 parts of the composition is preferably 3-10, and up to 80 per cent of the castor oil may be replaced by camphor. The compositions may also contain butyl, pentyl or hexyl acetate, ketones or the acetic acid ester of 2 methoxy ethanol. The compositions are for use as cosmetics for applying to the face to form a contractile film which alters the contour of the portion of the face to which the film has been applied.ALSO:Liquid cosmetic preparations, for forming a transparent colourless film for holding the skin in moulded contour, comprise 5-15 parts of nitrocellulose, 2-15 parts of castor oil, 2-10 parts of methyl cellosolve and a mixture of ethanol and ethyl ether in such proportions as to bring the total amount of the composition up to 106 parts by weight. An exemplified composition contains 10 parts of nitrocellulose, 5 parts of castor oil, 5 parts of methyl cellosolve and 86 parts of a mixture of ethanol and ethyl ether. This mixture consists of 47 parts of 95 per cent ethanol, 42 parts of ether and 11 parts of the vehicle or carrier with which the nitrocellulose was originally mixed, said vehicle consisting of ethanol or a 75/25 V/V ethanol-ethyl ether mixture. The number of parts of castor oil in 106 parts of the composition is preferably 3-10, and up to 80 per cent of the castor oil may be replaced by camphor. The compositions may also contain butyl, pentyl or hexyl acetate, ketones or the acetic acid ester of 2 methoxy ethanol.
