Abstract

A cosmetic for dyeing the skin in brown shades having an appearance similar to that obtained by exposure to the sun's rays which comprises (a) erythrulose together with a diluent medium to form a cream or gel; (b) erythrulose, an absorbent for ultra-violet radiation and a diluent to form a lotion, cream or gel; or (c) erythrulose in aqueous solution and containing a skin penetrating agent such as an alcohol or a surface active compound. The composition contains 0.5 to 10% by weight of the erythrulose. It is preferably put up in the form of a dispenser pack wherein the lotion, cream or gel is packed in a pressurized container for the automatic dispersing of the cosmetic on release therefrom. Specified diluents are glycerol, polyglycol and polyethylene glycols of 300-2000 molecular weight. In examples, mixture of (a) trichloromonofluoromethane and dichlorodifluoro methane; and (b) dichlorodifluoromethane and dichlorotetrafluoroethane are used as propellants.
