Abstract

795,427. Reeling wire netting. SCHMID, O. Aug. 10, 1956 [May 17, 1956], No. 24535/56. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for rolling up square-mesh wire netting includes two rotating bodies, the axes of which are parallel and transverse to the direction of travel of the wire netting and are spaced such a distance that the wire netting forms a cylindrical roll supported by, and contacting, both bodies of which the second in the direction of travel of the wire netting carries peripherally disposed entraining means for engaging the wire netting. Wire netting 2 produced by interweaving flat wire helices passes from a machine for so forming the netting over guide rollers and under a roller 18 on a pivoted arm to a feed roller 5 peripherally studded with radial pins 6. Thence the netting 2 is fed to bodies of revolution 26, 261, rotating at a peripheral speed greater than that of the feed roll 5, which roll the netting up into a roll 28, a pair -of rollers 29, on pivoted arms 30 which may be raised by a hand-operated arm 31, resting on said roll 28 to assist in the formation thereof. The bodies of revolution 26, 26<SP>1</SP> comprise spaced discs 26, 26<SP>1</SP> secured on shafts 20, 21, the discs 26 having a smooth periphery and the discs 26<SP>1</SP> having peripheral cross-pieces 27 of an axial length less than that of diagonal width of each mesh. The feedroller 5 is driven from a shaft 12 through a clutch 9, 10 which is engaged by a lever 11 rocked by a cam 17 on the pivoted arm of the roller 18 so that the roller 5 is stopped when the supply of netting thereto drops. The shafts 20, 21 of the bodies of revolution are driven from the feed roller 5. The bodies of revolution may be formed as rollers, the second one being studded with means to engage the mesh of the wire netting.
