A dental syringe for connection with supplies of air and water under pressure, has control means for enabling the syringe to discharge air or water, or air and water together, the syringe having at least two discharge pipes connected directly with three pressure medium conduits, two of the pressure medium conduits being arranged in parallel for supplying water to different discharge pipes. Concentric supply pipes for compressed air and water under pressure are provided in a sleeve part within which a preheating chamber for the air and water is also positioned. A valve insert piece 5 is connected to the preheating chamber and together with the sleeve part is enclosed by a tubular part 9. An intermediate piece 18 is connected with the tubular part 9 and the valve insert piece 5. An air duct 29<1> and a water duct 271 are connected with a channel 15<1> in an extension 17 of the intermediate piece 18 and a spray nozzle 12 having two concentric ducts. A second water duct 28<1> in the intermediate piece 18 is connected with a channel 16 which is disposed concentrically within the channel 15<1>. The flow of water through the ducts 27<1>, 281 is controlled by water valves 22, 21, respectively, arranged in parallel in the valve insert piece 5. An air valve 23 in the valve insert piece 5 controls the flow of air in the duct 29<1>. The valves 21, 22, 23 are normally closed and may be opened by actuating members 24, 26, 25 respectively on a rocking lever 20 which is pivoted on the tubular part 9. When the rocking lever 20 is pivoted in one direction, actuating members 25, 26 open the air valve 23 and the water valve 22 respectively so that water is supplied to the inner channel 16 and air to the outer channel 15<1> causing a spray to issue from the nozzle 12. The actuating member 26 of the water valve 22 may be pivoted out of its operative position so that only the air valve 23 is opened when the rocking lever is pivoted in this direction. When the rocking lever 20 is pivoted in the opposite direction, the independently-operated water valve 21 only is opened so that water flows into the outer channel 15<1> and is delivered as a jet from the nozzle 12. The amount by which the independently-operated water valve is opened may be adjusted by rotation of an eccentric disc 34 which is mounted in the rocking lever 20 and acts as a stop. In an alternative construction (not shown) each valve 21, 22, 23 is opened by a separate press stud, the press studs associated with one water valve 22 and the air valve 23 being constructed so that they may be operated either separately or together. In another construction (Fig. 13) a medicament container 43 is attached to the syringe so that medicament is supplied through the outer channel 15<1> together with air under the control of the air valve 23, water at the same time being supplied through the inner channel 16 under the control of the jointly operable water valve 22. The independently operated water valve 21 permits the supply of water when required through a separate channel 45.
