Abstract

1,117,000. Dental syringes. DENTISTS' SUPPLY CO. OF NEW YORK. 12 Oct., 1966 [20 Oct., 1965], No. 45700/66. Heading A5R. A dental syringe, able to supply from a nozzle 20 air or water or a mixture thereof. comprises an elongate body or handle 10 in which is formed passages for the air of water. there being a valve 54, 58 in each passage and there being a valve-actuating member rotatable about an axis extending longitudinally of the handle into positions in which it may selectively operate the valves to discharge either the air or water individually or an aerated water mist. As shown, a knob 100 secured to the rotatable valve-actuating member 96, 104, 112 can be turned to position a transverse member 116 selectively over rods 62, 64 attached by members 60 to the valve stems 46, 48 of water and air valves, so that, when the knob 100 is depressed, the transverse member 116 depresses certain of the rods 62 64 to open either or both of these valves. The water and air is supplied to the handle through conduits 166, 168, and transverse conduits (170, 172) (Figure 14, not shown) into the valve chambers 44 and metering outlets 42, the water and air then passing upon actuation, of the valves into conduits 30, 32, 40 and into co-axial bores (140, 142) in the nozzle 20 (see Figure 3, not shown). A rod 62 and a shorter rod 64 is adjustably mounted on the member 60 associated with each valve such that either water or air is provided when the member 116 is rotated and then depressed over a rod 62 and so that the water and air mixture provided when the member is depressed over both rods 64 (see Figure 10, not shown) is, by reason of the shorter length of the rods, about equal in force to the water or air flow alone. The rotatable valve-actuating member may be controlled by a detent fitting into grooves 120 and the knob, when it is depressed, may be guided by a member 134. It is stated that an electric heater for the water and air may be provided either in the handle or in the flexible conduits (28) to the handle.
