Class 44 A fastening for a refrigerator or like door comprises the combination of a body part 4 adapted to be mounted adjacent the free edge 9 of the door, a bell-crank lever pivotally mounted on the body part and one arm 6a of which is adapted to extend at the outside of the door to serve as a handle, a two-armed lever pivotally mounted on the body part 4 and one arm 8a, of which forms a catch piece adapted to. extend from the free edge of the door. for engagement with a keeper 10, and a link 7 pivotally interconnecting the other arm 8b of the two-armed lever with the other arm 6b of the bell-crank lever, the arrangement being such that in the latched position of the fastening, the link forms with the other arm 6b of the bellcrank lever an extended toggle linkage which requires to be collapsed by movement of the handle before the fastening can be unlatched, whilst in the unlatched position of the fastening the link forms with the other arm 8b of the two-armed lever an extended toggle linkage which requires to be collapsed by movement of the catch piece 8a before the fastening can be moved to the latched position. As shown, movement of the catch piece 8a to a position allowing the door. to be closed, is effected by its engagement with a link 10a of the keeper, the catch piece thereafter engaging a limb 10b and moving the handle 6a to a position parallel with the fate of the, door.
