Abstract
793,941. Chucks. CRAWFORD COLLETS. Ltd., [formerly CRAWFORD & CO. (TOTTENHAM), Ltd.]. Jan. 31, 1955 [Feb. 3, 1954], No. 3219/54. Class 83 (3). A collet - chuck comprises a sleeve 11 which can be moved to close a tapered-collet 19 by the movement of a plunger or plungers 15 into a liquidfilled chamber 12. The plungers are screwthreaded and rotated manually to open or close the chuck. The chuck is secured to a face-plate by bolts in bores 10a. The collet is of the type described in Specification 727,632 and is initially adjusted by a screwedring 20 locked by spring-pressed plungers 21. The sleeve 11 is held rearwardly by spring-fingers 21. In a modification, the plungers are moved in-and-out by an axially-movable or rotatable cam-ring 30, Fig. 4, which may be moved axially by lever-, or toggle-operation. In a further modification, the collet is attached to the sleeve which is carried by a draw-spindle moved rearwardly to draw the collet against a fixed conical surface.
