Abstract

793,643. Feeding sheets. KEMP, J. V. L. Sept. 27, 1956 [Sept. 29, 1955], No. 27757/55. Class 100(1) A device for facilitating the collation of papers comprises a base carrying a rack for supporting a plurality of stacks of papers at an angle to the vertical, a connecting rod mounted for swinging on the base and adapted for actuation by a hand lever or pedal against a biasing force, a friction separator for each stack hinged to the connecting rod and contactor elements carried near the free ends of the friction separators and arranged to slide along the stacks of papers when the connecting rod is swung upwardly, thus raising the top edge of the top sheet of each stack. The base is formed of two channel sections 4 held together by cross beams 5, the sections 4 being drilled to carry shafts 8 and 9 on which are mounted parallel pivoting links 10 and 11 to which the connecting rod 12 is secured. The shaft 9 is formed with an operating handle 13. Six U-shaped frames 16 are pivoted to the channel members 4 and maintained in spaced positions by side members 18 to which they are also pivoted. The frames may thus be folded to lie flat but are normally inclined at an angle of 60-70 degrees to the base. Each frame 16 supports a detachable tray 19, having a lip 20, for a stack of sheets. Hinged to the rod 12 are the friction separators 22 the free ends of which are provided with sheet engaging elements 24. A separator 22 is provided for each-stack. When the handle 13 is rotated anti-clockwise in Fig. 2 against the action of a bearing spring 14 the elements 24 slide down the sheets so thatwhen the handle rotates clockwise, under the action of the spring 14, the top sheet of. each stack is raised above the level of the remaining sheets.
