Abstract

786,532. Folding paper. SKUSE & PARTNERS, Ltd., W. R. June 22, 1956 [June 22, 1955], No. 18032/55. Class 100(1) A machine for folding paper and like sheets comprises a support 1 and guides 2, 3 for positioning a sheet thereon, at least one first blade 8 arranged in relation to a pair of spaced blades 5 so that by relative movement in one direction an interposed sheet is caused to assume a loop or U- formation about the blade 8, and devices 13 movable to fold and grip adjacent sheet portions over the blades 5 and to tighten the U-formation on the blade 8 to complete the folding, the arrangement being such that relative movement in the opposite direction draws the folded sheet away from the spaced blades 5 so that it can readily be detached,from the gripping devices 13. The blade 8 is mounted on a carrier 6 vertically slidable in guides 7 and loaded by a spring 9. The carrier 6 is provided with an arm or bracket 10 to which is attached a handle 11 for operating the machine. The grippers 13 are mounted beneath the arm 10 on transverse rods 15. Movement of the carrier 6 under the action of the spring 9 is limited by stops 18 arranged within the upper cover 19 of the machine. Similar stops may be arranged within the lower cover 20. The machine is provided with a table 21 for holding sheets 17 to be folded and with receptacles 22 into which folded sheets may be deposited. The carrier may alternatively be foot-operated.
