Abstract
903,819. Folding fabrics. TEXTILMASCHINENBAU GERA VEB. May 23, 1961, No. 18638/61. Class 42 (2). A textile folding machine for laying a web of fabric in transverse folds comprises two alternately operable folding bars 1, 2 which are raised as a stack of fabric 6 is built up, grippers 5 which hold the folds in position and which are rocked upwards by the bars 1, 2 at the end of each laying path, and at least one horizontal cutter 10 for severing the folds and having its cutting edge co-operating with a slit 9 in the bar 1, the cutter 10 being coupled to an arm 7 carrying the gripper 5 so that it is automatically aligned with the slit 9. The cutter 10 is situated in a guide 11, 12 connected by arms 13 to the arm 7 so that when the gripper 5 is lifted the cutter 10 is also lifted, the guide 11, 12 or the arms 13 running in guides 15. Fingers 23, 24 also guide the cutter 10. In operation, the bar 1 lifts the gripper 5, a push-rod is operated to give the cutter a movement in the form of an arc of a circle through a parallel crank device, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the gripper 5 drops on to the cut fold. A second cutter may be provided at the other end of the stack 6.
