Abstract

300,165. Bates Valve, Bag Corporation, (Assignees of Kronmiller, C. G.). Nov. 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Delivery apparatus.-In apparatus for severing a collapsed tube into bag lengths, a flattened tube 137 passes from conveyers to a clamp 34, through cutting cylinders, to a clamp 38. The severed sheets are fed by a conveyer 144, 152 and alternate sheets are diverted by a deflecting finger 157 or by pneumatic means to an upper conveyer 173 and a lower conveyer 178. The clamp 34, the cutting cylinder, and the clamp 38 are driven from an electro-motor through appropriate gearing at speeds slightly less than, equal to, and slightly greater than the speed of the web. Blades on a bar 63 slidable on arms 60 on a shaft 58 co-operate with recesses in a bar 112 carried by arms 110 on a shaft 108 to cut lengths with corner extensions differentlv directed. The ends of the bar are connected by gearing and are retracted by an adjustable stationary cam. Springs 68 move the bar forward to effect the cut. A clamp bar secured to an arm 60 engages a clamp on the bar 112. A cutter 106 engages a recess 135 for severing the web transversely. Within the bar 112 slide pins operated by cams for removing the rectangular waste portions. The cut lengths are received between the conveyer 152 on pulleys 149, 150, 151 and the conveyer 144 on pulleys 141, 142, 143, arranged as in Fig. 3. The conveyer 152 at its rear end co-operates with the conveyer 173 passing over pulleys 170, 171, and the conveyer 144 co-operates with the conveyer 178 on pulleys 169, 177. The deflecting finger 157 is operated by a bar 164 oscillated from the cutter mechanism and carrying pins 167, 168 which engage a toggle. The leg of the toggle is telescopic against the action of an enclosed spring to allow the deflecting finger to become inoperative if the cut between the sheets is defective. In a modification the finger 157 is replaced by upwardly and downwardly directed air jets. Specification 290,158, [Class 78 (i), Conveyers &c.] is referred to.
