Abstract

792,834. Boring-heads. DENHAM'S ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and PRINCE, BROWN & CO., Ltd. April 30, 1956 [April 28, 1955], No. 12230/55. Class 83 (3). A boring-tool-assembly for use in the diametral opening of a boring-bar comprises a rectangular-headed tool-holder 5 provided with an axial partly screw-threaded bore; a cutting- tool 7 in the bore, into which also screws a micrometer backing-screw 13 for adjusting the tool; an axial-screw 15 passing through a clearance bore in the backing-screw and engaging a screw-threaded bore 10 in the tool, and a washer associated with the screw 15 whereby the assembly may be clamped to a boring-bar. A key 11 projects inwardly from the holder and engages a keyway in the tool to prevent relative rotation. The holder and tool may be additionally held together, for removal as a single unit, by a grub-screw 12. A clamping-screw 17 passes through an opening in the holder to engage a flat 9 on the tool to clamp the latter transversely in a boring-bar 1. When the tool and holder assembly is removed from the bar, socket-holes 14 in the screw 13 may be engaged by a micrometer adjusting-device to re-set the tool for the required diameter. Sets of assemblies may be used with the same bar for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing-cuts.
