Abstract

792,194. Sealing oven doors. JONES, STROUD & CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, G. Oct. 4, 1955 [Dec. 3, 1954], No 34993/54. Class 126 [Also in Groups X and XXVI] A gasket 10a for sealing parts subjected to high or low temperature conditions, such as the doors 13 of ovens, refrigerators, &c. comprises in cross-section a resilient hollow part 11 and an integral flange 12 and is constituted by fabric made from fibre glass yarn and set by heat treatment which fuses intersecting or contacting parts of the yarn together, the flange 12 comprising two thicknesses of the fabric. The gasket is preferably of braided tubular form and subjected to heating and shaping in a heated mould or die to a temperature of about 550‹C. The flange 12 is clamped to the door 13 by a strip 15 and the hollow part 11 is sealingly deformed between the door and the opening surround 17. In a modification, Fig. 5, the gasket comprises, in cross-section, two hollow parts 11b interconnected by a web 12b secured in a channel 20 in the door by a member 21. In a further modificfiation Fig. 7 (not shown) the flange is in the form of a bead reinforcement by a wire or a cord of glass fibres or asbestos.
