Abstract

690,906. Joint-making packing. JOHNS-MANVILLE CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1951 [Oct. 6, 1950], No. 22916/51. Class 122(iii) A packing to withstand high temperatures comprises a resilient metal mesh core 16 surrounded by a fabric sheath 18 which extends as a projecting flange 14 and has metal strands 28 arranged circumferentially therein and extending into the flange 14. The core 16 is of knitted metal mesh, preferably of high heat resistant metal, and the sheath may be of woven asbestos strands 26 the latter extending circumferentially of the sheath into overlapping portions 20 stitched together to form the flange 14. The sheath may be coated with a sealing compound such as synthetic rubber or resin. Specification 548,809 is referred to.
