Abstract
Yarns, cords or needled rovings for use in producing heat insulating matl. contain up to 40% alumina silicate fibres (pref. produced from molten kaolin); up to 60% asbestos fibres; up to 20% metallic or graphite fibres; and/or 2-20% of other fibres (e.g. synthetic, cellulosic). The mixt. of fibres can be easily treated to produce a spun yarn which can be woven, a corded lap which can be used to produce a felt etc. The insulating matl. is suitable for use at above 800 degrees C. Pref. the insulating matl. contains >=50% alumina silicate fibres.
