Abstract

Inorganic fibres are used as a heat-resistant additive in a needle-bonded non-woven open-structure using 90-2000 denier fibres of metal or silicone oxide or glass with a breaking strain of more than 4.5 kg coated with a polymer such as PTFE, nylon (RTM) terylene (RTM), polyethylene or polypropylene. The process gives a fibre structure which is heat-resistant and stable, and which will not break as the abrasive fibres are coated for mutual protection.
