Abstract

792,131. Loud-speakers. PYE, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 4787/55. Class 40 (4). In an electrostatic loud-speaker a sheet of polyethylene terephthalate which is free from pinholes is stretched over a backing plate and is coated, on the side remote from the backing plate, with a metallic layer. The sheet or film preferably has a thickness of the order of 0.00025 to 0.001 inches and in one embodiment is bonded with a film of aluminium a few microns thick and stretched across the convex surface of a rigid perforated backing plate. The diaphragm comprises a strip 20 inches by 1 inch and a D.C. polarizing voltage of from 300-500 volts is recommended.
