Class 68(1) Apparatus of the type in which a capacitor 1 is adapted first to be charged by a source of current and then, on the manual operation of a switch 6, to give off its stored charge instantaneously through a firing circuit connected to the apparatus and comprising a plurality of electric blasting caps associated with blasting charges and in which a discharge circuit, which includes a discharge resistance 8. is in parallel with the firing circuit, and is normally closed in order to keep the capacitor free from residual charges but by the actuation of a second switch 7 can intentionally be interrupted whicle the apparatus is in use, is characterized in that the switch 7 is double acting and is also included in the firing circuit where it is connected in series with the switch 6 so that closure of the firing circuit is only possible when the discharge circuit is interrupted. The contact members of the switches 6, 7 are actuated against the action of return springs The source of current is a hand-driven generator 2 with or without a rectifier set.
